Love this article so much! Especially the part about not getting caught up in comparing oneself to other disabled folks who are much more 'productive'. This is such an important reminder for ND people, because once we stop comparing ourselves to neurotypical standards, this is usually the next trap one gets caught in. It just shows how much we have to recommit to compassionately listening to our own needs, regardless of which end of the productivity spectrum it places us on.

This essay found me at the right time. I'm working on organizing a union at my workplace, and the most frustrating roadblock I keep coming up against is this belief that "unions make workers lazy". My honest response to that is, "so what? So what if by organizing for worker power we get to spend more time doing what matters, have less stress at work, and put less money into our corporate overlords' stock portfolios? Those all sound like wins to me!" But that usually earns me a skeptical eyebrow-raise at best. After enough of this conversation, you start to feel like the crazy one. So I deeply appreciate this.

“our culture can’t stand for someone to be quite well and happy and still unproductive.” — this, a million times.

I hope you were able to have your procedure and that you’re still healing well! Can’t wait to read more your stuff, at your leisure!
